God has always been concerned with the family and the roles of its members. Common errors in our family life are revealed through proper directives given by the Lord. In Colossians 3:18 it reads, “Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.” (NIV). Here the non-submissive tendency of the wife is exposed. In verse 19 of that same chapter Paul writes, “Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.” This reveals the fleshly desire of the husband to be oppressive. We also see the propensity of a child to disobey through Colossians 3:20. “...Children, obey your parents in everything...”(NIV). The Lord has taken the time and given us positive instruction to make our lives easier inside the context of the family. If we ignore these teachings we are missing the many blessings he wishes to bestow through obedience. The next time conflict arises in your household, gain insight and read Colossians 3:18-21.
