Food For Thought

When we hear others speak in day to day conversation the language used is often off color. Cursing and inappropriate ‘jokes’ seem to be a part of everyday life for some. The Bible says in Eph 5:4 “Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.”(NIV). It often brings great satisfaction to conduct our conversations in a fleshly manner but for those who believe, our speech is to reflect the change that has taken place in our hearts. When we hear young children speak using expletives we think ‘how tragic’ but we need to understand we are also God’s children. Although it is difficult, God can give us the strength to modify our speech so that it glorifies Him. Scripture says that “The Lord is my helper…” Hebrews 13:6. The next time you feel the urge to abuse the language, turn and ask God for the help he has promised to give. Something to think about…
