Food For Thought

Scripture has much to say concerning joy, otherwise known as gladness, and our walk with the Lord. For example we are to receive the Word with joy (Luke 8:13), and it is appropriate to share our joy with others (2 Cor. 2:3). Joy is obtained through fellowship with God and fellow believers and it is maintained almost effortlessly in the absence of sin while flourishing if we abide in the hope of our redemption. When joy is absent it is often the result of guilt caused by sin. If you desire a healthy dose of gladness scripture provides the prescription. First, we are to avoid sin. Secondly, we need to proactively pursue the same works as the first century church. Acts 2:42 says, “They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (NIV). Finally, if we follow the counsel of Eccl 9:10 “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might,” (NIV), we will obtain what we seek. In short, seeking after joy means seeking after the Lord. Something to think about…
