We are given several directives in scripture concerning hard work. Proverbs 10:4 reads, “Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.”(NIV) We should raise up our children with an ethic of hard work so that when they become adults they become producers. Whether it is being a mother at home raising children, working in a trade or having some kind of desk job we should employ diligence. One of the main reasons for working hard and producing is so we might have something to share with others. Eph 4:28 states, “He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.” (NIV) We should view our ability to work as the ability to benefit others and not just ourselves.
