Work is an activity that has been ordained by God. Those who intentionally seek to avoid it are to be shunned when they are able to perform. 1 Timothy 5:8 states, “If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”(NIV) and in 1Thessalonians 4:11 we are told, “Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you,”(NIV). Scripture goes so far as to say, "…If a man will not work, he shall not eat."( II Thessalonians 3:10, NIV). Many people fall into difficult times when they lose their jobs. For those, the Body of Christ is to offer assistance according to its ability but when laziness is the rule, aid is to be withheld. This may seem harsh to some but this is good for everyone. Not only is there benefit to those in the church but it is a witness to unbelievers. Something to think about...
