Getting an education is always beneficial in a society that values knowledge. For most of us, as years pass, there is a tendency to stop learning but God desires that we continue to add to our knowledge. The Lord calls those who store knowledge as ‘wise’. Proverbs 10:14 states “Wise men store up knowledge…” (NIV). According to the psalmist we are to ask for knowledge, “Teach me knowledge and good judgment,…” Ps 119:66 (NIV). Gaining knowledge is good but if it is not wrapped in love it leads only to pride according to the Apostle Paul. “…Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.” 1 Cor. 8:1a (NIV). So in our pursuit of knowledge we need to remember to use it for God and the benefit of others otherwise we live our lives in vain. “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge… but have not love, I am nothing.” 1 Cor. 13:2 (NIV).
