The word burden has been defined a couple of ways. It can be an onerous and difficult concern or a source of great worry, stress or weight. Burdens can be financial, not having enough money to make ends meet or physical, by not being in the best of health. Burdens can even be placed upon us by others and take the form of requirements in work, relationships or in religious life. It would seem that the consequences of sin usher in the greatest of burdens, the unrest of our soul. Jesus gave the remedy for this in Matthew 11:28-30. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."(NIV) Jesus provides the answers for our burdens if we just turn to him and ask for help. Something to think about…
