Cyrus the great, Alexander the great; by human standards many people want to become great. The disciples themselves argued who was greatest among them. Jesus wanted to make clear to them that the standards for greatness were different in Heaven than in the world. “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them…not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.” (Mark 10:42-44) Jesus didn’t tell them, “don’t desire to be great”; He set the example by doing the most menial task of that time, washing feet. So let us not Lord over others, but serve them as we would Christ. No task is too small, for the one who will be the Servant of All. Something to think about…
