Food For Thought

People in this life who seek to be immortalized by what they build or accomplish should reconsider. Solomon, who was the wisest King who ever lived, wrote, “There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow.” Eccl 1:11 (NIV). Skyscrapers built in honor of their owners will eventually be sold or torn down and with it their names. Even the men listed on the wonderful Declaration of Independence are all but forgotten by most Americans. When there is a new heaven and a new earth the scripture tells us, “…The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. Isa 65:17 (NIV). This begs the question, “What then should we pursue in this life?” Again, Solomon has the answer. Eccl 12:13 “… Fear God and keep his commandments, for this are the whole [duty] of man.” (NIV) Since nothing we do will be remembered it is best to invest in that which will last, namely living for God. Something to think about…
