In our culture the tendency is to spend an entire life getting ready to retire. Storing up wealth so that when are old we can possess a life of ease. Although there is nothing wrong with having a comfortable retirement what we should be careful of is what we store up. Scripture tells us what we should accumulate in addition to wealth. It is written in Proverbs 16:16 “How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver!” (NIV). Also in Proverbs 4:7 we are told, “Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”(NIV). Wisdom and understanding therefore are to be increased just as a bank account. The effort we put into building an IRA, stock or bond fund should be equaled by the endeavor of knowing God and His Word. Something to think about…
