Food For Thought

Even though work is commanded in scripture if we fail to work there is a price to pay. Poverty will ensue. Prov. 10:4 says “Lazy hands make a man poor, …”(NIV). Your house will fall apart. Eccl. 10:18 says “If a man is lazy, the rafters sag; if his hands are idle, the house leaks.” (NIV). You will also go hungry. II Th. 3:10 says ‘For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."’ (NIV). Independence and respect from unbelievers will also be a result of our labor. 1Thes 4:11,12 says “Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.” (NIV) Work then should be diligently pursued not only for the benefits it brings but also because of the pitfalls it avoids. Something to think about…
