With the advent of the New Year many people make resolutions. It is always good to set goals and plan but we should remember to submit to the plan that God may have for us. Proverbs 16:9 says, “In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” (NIV). When the nation of Israel had been in captivity in Babylon for 70 years we are told by the prophet Jeremiah that the LORD had plans for all the people. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV), Jeremiah 29:11. Just as God wanted to bless the Israelites, He wants to bless those who belong to Him. So, as we anticipate this coming year we should set goals, make our plans, give honor to God and ask for His direction and will to be done, so that we might receive all the blessings God has for us.
