Food For Thought

Individuals often have difficulty knowing what is right and what is wrong. King Solomon recognized this when he made his request to God to know the difference in the book of I Kings 3:9 “So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong." (NIV). King Solomon didn’t ask for a college degree, he didn’t ask for a poll to see what people thought and he didn’t desire to lean on his own understanding to differentiate between that which is wrong and that which is right. He also didn’t ask for a ‘discerning heart’ for his own benefit but for the benefit of those he would lead. He set for us an example. We are to ask for God’s help when it concerns good and evil, right and wrong. When we do ask we should not just ask for our own gain but for the good of those around us. Finally, when our own discernment seems to conflict with God’s Word we should always choose the way of the Lord. Prov. 3:5. Something to think about…
