Food For Thought

When we find ourselves in an argument with someone, it is difficult to maintain a proper attitude. Scripture directs us as to what our posture is supposed to look like in the midst of conflict. Colossians 3:12-14 states, ”Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” (NIV). In other words we are to look at the ‘other’ person with the view that God maintains. We are not to hold grudges and be willing to forgive. This is difficult because if we are wronged we desire justice. Even if we still do not agree we are to continue to exhibit these characteristics. Displaying these behaviors will bring unity and benefit not only ourselves but also the entire body. The next time you have a conflict remember Colossians. Something to think about…
