Food For Thought

Have you been hurt and found it hard to forgive the offense? While it’s often said, “I can forgive, but I can’t forget”, remembering someone’s sin does not mean it can be held against them. The term forgiveness comes from the Greek word aphiemi, which means “to let go, to give up, to keep no longer.” The idea is that of debt being erased from the record, and the documents listing the debt being shredded. Matthew 6:14-15 shows us that forgiveness is required of those who have been forgiven and that a failure to do so will damage our relationship with God. Forgiveness becomes an easier task when we realize the sins committed against us are trivial compared to the enormity of our sins against God. Ephesians 4:32 tells us, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Forgiveness then is not an occasional act, it is a permanent attitude. Something to think about…
