If you could make one wish and receive anything you desire what would you wish for? Would it be long life? Would it be wealth or a position of power? It is our tendency to ask for things to benefit ourselves rather than others. Phil 2:3 states “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” (NIV) When asked by God Solomon desired a heart of discernment to guide the people of God (1 Kings 3:1-14). God was so thrilled with this answer that he not only gave to Solomon what he requested but he also provided for him wealth and honor. This was done because his request was not selfish but selfless.
