Have you ever been so mistreated that all you wanted to do is pay back your offender so that person feels as miserable as you? Has your heart been trampled on by others so severally that you’ve entertained thoughts of getting even? Relinquishing our right to administer punishment upon another is the Biblical concept of mercy. To extend mercy means to give up paying back someone for a wrong committed against you. Rom 12:19-21 tells us, “Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (NIV). If someone deliberately harms you don’t seek to repay. Instead, choose to treat them as Jesus treats you when you sin against Him.
